"Do not ever go into Walmart, Home Depot, Eaton's, The Bay, Rona, Winner's and Home Sense to buy a work of art...Guess what? We have ways of finding out..."

Green flashes and green rays are rare optical phenomena that occur shortly after sunset or before sunrise, when a green spot is visible for a short period of time above the sun, or a green ray shoots up from the sunset point. It is usually observed from a low altitude where there is an unobstructed view of the horizon, such as on the ocean. The idea is that one can predict where and when to observe the green ray has no scientific basis.
The Green Ray (French: Le Rayon vert) is a novel by the French writer Jules Verne published in 1882 and named after the optical phenomenon (see green flash). It is referenced in a film of the same name by Eric Rohmer.
There is a religious quality to this "Green Ray" piece. Art as religion, you just need to /believe/. I could watch this over and over, the whole narrative builds you up to the very instant before the sun sets.

ReplyDeleteI agree. Thanks for the comment. I like the piece so much that I just posted it again today, then realized I'd already posted it in January.
