"Do not ever go into Walmart, Home Depot, Eaton's, The Bay, Rona, Winner's and Home Sense to buy a work of art...Guess what? We have ways of finding out..."

The Yayoi Kusama exhibition opened at Tate Modern today.
From rural Japan to the New York art scene to contemporary Tokyo, Yayoi Kusama has continuously innovated and re-invented her style. Well-known for her repeating dot patterns, her art encompasses an astonishing variety of media, including painting, drawing, sculpture, film, performance and immersive installation.
This is a varied, spectacular exhibition by a truly unique artist. There has never been an exhibition of this size of her work in the UK.
The Tate retrospective spans over six decades and charts Kusama's years in the United States, when she was at the epicentre of the 1960s New York art scene alongside Andy Warhol, and her subsequent return to Japan, where she continues to produce art from the mental hospital where she has lived as a voluntary patient since the 1970s.
